Welcome

We're the Loma Prieta Paddlers, a whitewater paddling club based in the San Jose, California area.  For over 50 years LPP has been supporting the paddling community by hosting weekly pool roll sessions, a full schedule of river trips and an annual whitewater slalom race.

We welcome all kinds of whitewater boaters from those new to the sport to those with years of paddling experience.  Club membership is easy, there are no club dues nor secret handshake to learn.  To become a member all you need to do is participate; come to a club meeting, practice in the pool or join a trip.  So if you're new to the area, are looking to improve your paddling skills or you just want to paddle with an enjoyable group of fellow kayakers, contact us, signup for the listserv and we'll see you on the river.

Most of our members are from San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, but we have regular members from the East Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Francisco and Sacramento as well as emeritus members living around the country.  We paddle the many rivers of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains and the coastal ranges.

LPP is an activity section of the Sierra Club and an American Canoe Association Paddle America Club.  You don't need to be a Sierra Club or ACA member to paddle with LPP, but we certainly encourage it.

The purpose of the club is to:

  • coordinate whitewater trips
  • serve as a meeting place for boaters
  • promote river safety
  • improve paddling skills
  • organize whitewater races
  • promote river conservation
