There are lots of great kayak schools around the country and here in California.  You can go for a day, a weekend or make an adventure out of it and go for a week.  Most schools have regularly schedule classes you can join or will let you setup your own group lessons or private lessons if your prefer.

• EskapeKayak Roger Schumann is based in the San Jose area and teaches private or group lessons at our Tuesday night pool sessions.
• Golden Gate Kayak Andy Walters is based in the San Jose area and teaches private or group whitewater or sea kayak lessons.
• Current Adventures  This school is based on the South Fork of the American,
• California Canoe and Kayak  CCK has stores in Oakland and Sacramento and does courses on the South Fork of the American.
• Adventure Kayaking Phil & Mary DeRiemer give private and semi private lessons on the South Fork American when they aren't leading trips around the world.
• Otter Bar A week of "B & B" kayaking.  Great instruction in a wonderful setting with great food in northern California.
• Sundance Lessons on the Rogue River in Oregon.
• Cascade  On the Payette River in Idaho with camping across the road from a riverside hotspring.
• Nantahala Outdoor Center For a serious road trip head to North Carolina and NOC.
